A lifelong Georgian, Keisha Lance Bottoms has spent her career fighting for safer communities and greater opportunity for working families. Whether serving as Atlanta’s mayor, a judge, a city councilmember, and a senior advisor to President Joe Biden, she has built a reputation for leading through difficult moments, bringing people together, and delivering practical solutions to the challenges facing Georgia communities. Throughout her career, Bottoms has remained committed to ensuring every Georgian has the opportunity to thrive and that our government fulfills its most fundamental responsibility: keeping people safe.
As mayor of Atlanta, Bottoms made reducing gun violence and strengthening public safety a top priority. She expanded Atlanta’s Cure Violence Initiative and invested in community violence intervention programs that address the root causes of violence before it occurs. Recognizing that lasting public safety requires both strong law enforcement and strong community partnerships, she also secured historic pay raises and expanded training opportunities for Atlanta’s first responders. Bottoms believes that no parent should have to fear for their child’s safety at school, in their neighborhood, or while attending a community event. As governor, she will fight to enact an extreme risk protection order law, strengthen universal background checks, and invest in proven violence intervention strategies, including hospital- and community-based programs that help interrupt cycles of violence and save lives.
