Like many people across the country, State Senator Kelly Morrison believes that we need leaders in office who are focused on delivering results and putting the needs of their constituents above all else. It’s this drive that has led Senator Morrison to work with both Democrats and Republicans to pass over 90 bills in the state legislature in six years—more than almost every other legislator in Minnesota—and take on some of the most intractable issues of the day, including our epidemic of gun violence.

Prior to her career in public service, Senator Morrison worked as a physician and saw the devastation senseless shootings can render on everyday people. She’s also a mother who knows our children deserve better—which is why during her time in the state legislature, Senator Morrison has helped pass legislation establishing universal background checks and extreme risk protection orders that have allowed law enforcement and family members to disarm those who pose a threat to themselves or others. She’s seen the effectiveness of these measures in Minnesota, and if elected to Congress she will work to pass these lifesaving reforms on the federal level. Senator Morrison also supports reinstating the assault weapons ban, removing the prohibition on suing gun manufacturers, and putting in place increased penalties for criminals who violate gun laws. 

Gun violence is a public health crisis that needs to be addressed as such—and there is no better leader equipped to do just that in Washington DC than a doctor like State Senator Kelly Morrison. We know that she’ll always find the courage to act on this issue, stand up to the gun lobby, and work to build a safer tomorrow for the next generation.
