Throughout her career, Attorney General Kris Mayes has built a reputation as a fighter for Arizona families and communities. Born and raised in Prescott, she has dedicated her life to public service—as a journalist, statewide elected official, educator, and now Arizona’s chief law enforcement officer. In office, Attorney General Mayes has focused on protecting consumers, combating organized crime, taking on powerful special interests, and keeping Arizonans safe. Her commitment to public safety has made her a leading voice in the effort to address gun violence while respecting the rights of responsible gun owners.
Attorney General Mayes is a gun owner and strong supporter of the Second Amendment, but she believes that constitutional rights come with responsibilities. As Arizona’s top law enforcement officer, she has taken an aggressive approach to keeping firearms out of the hands of criminals, gun traffickers, cartels, and individuals who pose a danger to themselves or others. Under her leadership, the attorney general’s office has worked closely with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to combat illegal gun trafficking, including dismantling a cartel-linked operation that trafficked hundreds of firearms into Mexico. Attorney General Mayes has also championed commonsense gun safety measures, including advocating for extreme risk protection laws, defending restrictions that keep handguns out of the hands of minors, withdrawing Arizona from litigation that would have weakened enforcement against ghost guns, and advancing legislation to strengthen penalties for criminal gun traffickers.
Attorney General Mayes understands that public safety and gun violence prevention go hand in hand. She has consistently worked to ensure that law enforcement has the tools necessary to combat violent crime while pursuing practical solutions that help prevent firearms from falling into dangerous hands in the first place. Her approach recognizes that communities can be both safe and free, and that responsible gun ownership and effective public safety measures are not mutually exclusive.
At a time when too many elected officials are unwilling to confront the challenges posed by gun violence and illegal gun trafficking, Arizona needs an attorney general who is willing to lead. Attorney General Kris Mayes has demonstrated that leadership throughout her time in office, standing up to criminals, defending commonsense gun safety measures, and putting the safety of Arizona families first. We know she will continue fighting every day to build a safer future for communities across the state.
