Candidate
Kristen McDonald Rivet
US House
Michigan
— 8th District Democrat
Incumbent2026
Through hard work and grit, Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet’s family was able to achieve what she calls the Michigan Dream—to own a home, pay the bills, and live a happy life. Throughout her career, Congresswoman McDonald Rivet has fought tirelessly to give back to her community and help people across her state achieve that same dream, and a core part of that work has been to prevent the kind of senseless gun violence that has devastated too many Michigan families.
As the executive director of Michigan Head Start, chief of staff for Michigan’s Department of Education, and vice president of the Skillman Foundation, Congresswoman McDonald Rivet has always worked to improve outcomes for children in Michigan—but nothing exemplifies this service better than her first act in the State Senate, which was to protect our kids by leading the successful effort to pass commonsense gun safety laws that require safe gun storage, implement universal background checks, and allow courts to temporarily remove guns from people deemed a risk to themselves or others. Now, as a member of Congress, she’s continued to champion this lifesaving work at the federal level. In Washington D.C., she’s proven herself as a tough fighter against concealed carry reciprocity, and a vocal advocate for making crucial investments in community violence intervention programs and working to disarm domestic abusers.
Once again this cycle, Michigan’s Eighth District will likely be home to one of the closest races in the country, and it’s imperative that voters across mid-Michigan turn out like never before to keep Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet in this seat. She is the battle-tested, reliable voice Michiganders need in Washington to stand up for what’s right and continue to push back on the gun lobby’s dangerous agenda.
