Marni Von Wilpert has built her life around public service and delivering results for working families. Raised in North San Diego County in a proud military family, Marni learned early the value of service, responsibility, and giving back to her community. That commitment has guided her career, from serving in the Peace Corps during the AIDS epidemic in Botswana, to founding a legal clinic to combat discrimination in the Deep South, to helping write legislation in Congress to strengthen workers’ rights. Back home in San Diego, Marni continued that mission as a prosecutor and now as a city councilmember, where she became the first Democrat to flip one of the city’s most conservative council districts in decades. Now, she is ready to do it again by flipping California’s Forty-Eighth District and helping rebuild a gun safety majority in the US House.

Throughout her time in office, Marni has been a proven leader in the fight to keep communities safe and take on the gun lobby. After a mass shooting in San Diego, she authored and passed California’s first law banning the sale, possession, and transportation of untraceable ghost guns—then successfully defended that law after being sued by the NRA. She also authored the Ira Sharp Firearm Dealer Accountability Act to ensure taxpayer dollars never go to gun dealers with records of unlawful transfers or repeated background check violations. As chair of San Diego’s Public Safety Committee, Marni has also secured resources for first responders, worked to improve emergency response times, and advanced commonsense solutions to reduce violence and save lives.

The race in California’s Forty-Eighth District is now one of the top battleground contests in the nation—and one of Democrats’ strongest opportunities to flip a key seat and help take back the House majority. With an open seat on the ballot, voters have a clear choice between more of the same partisan politics or a proven leader who has spent her career delivering real results and standing up for safer communities. Marni Von Wilpert has already shown she can win tough races, take on powerful interests, and get meaningful change done for working families.
