Maxwell Alejandro Frost is part of a new generation of leaders that is taking the movement to end gun violence to new heights. In the wake of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas HIgh School in Parkland, Florida, young people like Frost took to the streets to call on legislators across the country to pass comprehensive gun safety laws—and now, they’re running for office themselves.
Maxwell Frost is a gun violence survivor, civil rights activist, and Orlando resident who previously served as the National Organizing Director at March for Our Lives—one of the largest youth-led political movements in the country. Frost was first inspired to join the fight to end gun violence following the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, when 20 students and six faculty members tragically lost their lives. After meeting some of the families of those killed in Connecticut, Frost joined Newtown Action Alliance as a volunteer lobbyist and has since worked with other advocacy organizations like the ACLU to fight for change in Washington. Fueled by his own experiences with police violence and having seen the deadly impact of gun violence on his community up close—especially among working people and people of color—Frost joined with national progressive groups, including Giffords, last fall to secure an unprecedented five billion dollars in funding for community-based violence prevention programs in President Biden’s yearly budget proposal.
In Congress, Maxwell Frost will be undaunted in the fight to save lives, and we know he will always find the courage to stand up to the gun lobby and act on this life or death issue. Now more than ever, the voices of survivors of gun violence are needed in the highest halls of power, and we know that with Maxwell Frost in office, Congress can finally pass comprehensive solutions needed to combat rising rates of crimes and enshrine policies like universal background checks, extreme risk protection order laws, and safe storage requirements into law.
