State Representative Micah Lasher is a born-and-raised Upper West Sider who has proven himself as one of New York City’s most effective lawmakers. From serving as policy director for Governor Kathy Hochul and chief of staff in the New York State attorney general’s office, to his time as director of state legislative affairs for the City of New York under Mayor Mike Bloomberg and as an aide to Congressman Jerry Nadler, he’s made giving back to others and bettering his community a throughline of his career.

In every role, Representative Lasher has prioritized public safety and been a fierce advocate for the many commonsense measures that will protect communities across the country from senseless gun violence. As a parent of three children, he understands firsthand the urgency of getting this right and making sure the next generation can grow up in a safer world and not face the daily terror of losing their lives in schools, churches, or public places. In Albany, he has helped write sweeping new gun safety laws in New York, including background checks for ammunition purchases, new license requirements for gun purchases, and expanded red flag laws. In Congress, Representative Lasher hopes to bring this fight nationwide and will be a tireless champion for universal background checks on all gun sales and transfers, work to reinstate the federal assault weapons ban, and support the enactment of measures that will disarm domestic abusers and those who pose safety threats to themselves of others.
