Former Congressman Mondaire Jones has always led with conviction, courage, and determination, and been laser-focused on achieving real results for the people he serves. In 2018, he made history as one of the first openly gay Black men ever elected to serve in Congress, and during his tenure in office he was an active member of the House Judiciary Committee—where he tackled some of the most pressing issues facing Americans, including our gun violence epidemic.

In office, Congressman Jones built a formidable record of success when it comes to tackling the senseless violence that has impacted so many communities across New York. In his first term, Congressman Jones helped pass the first committed funding for gun violence research in over 20 years, as well as measures to expand background checks to all gun sales and implement desperately needed red flag laws that would help disarm domestic abusers and those who pose threats to themselves or others. In the wake of devastating mass shootings like the one that claimed the lives of 19 children and two educators, Congressman Jones joined his colleagues in passing the Protecting Our Kids Act and the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act—the latter becoming the first gun safety legislation signed into law in nearly 30 years. But like so many in this movement, he knows that what we’ve done is not enough and is fighting to reclaim his seat to act on this issue once again. If elected, Congressman Jones will fight for needed funding for community violence intervention programs, a ban on assault weapons, and measures to regulate dangerous untraceable firearms.

A new gun safety majority in the US House runs through New York this fall, and it’s imperative that voters mobilize like never before to turn out and send former Congressman Mondaire Jones back to office. With him helping lead the way in 2025, we know a future free from gun violence is within reach.
