Paige Cognetti’s career has been guided by the vision that government should work as hard as the people it serves. In each role—from her time on the Pennsylvania auditor general’s team to serving as a member of the Scranton school board, and now leading her city as the first woman mayor of Scranton—she’s consistently taken on special interests and centered the needs of everyday Pennsylvanians in order to achieve real results. Now, Mayor Cognetti is stepping up once again to help ensure that children and families in her community can thrive by fighting to flip one of the toughest battleground seats on the map next fall and help rebuild a gun safety majority in the US House.
In elected office, Mayor Cognetti has been a steadfast advocate for public safety measures and has worked tirelessly to protect her constituents from the scourge of gun violence. As a mother to two daughters, she understands that we need to do more to create a safer future for our children—which is why she’s worked to interrupt cycles of violence by partnering with state, county, and local law enforcement to introduce Scranton’s first ever community violence intervention and prevention project in order to create a long-term, sustainable violent crime prevention strategy for her city. During her time leading the Electric City, she has also issued official proclamations honoring the first Friday in June as National Gun Violence Awareness Day—and if elected to Congress in 2026, she’ll work to implement universal background checks on gun sales nationwide, strengthen safe storage measures so that guns can’t fall into the wrong hands, and take on the gun industry and its corrupt practices.
The race in Pennsylvania’s Eighth District is set to be one of the closest in the country next fall, and the choice facing voters across Northeast Pennsylvania could not be more clear. They can either send Rob Bresnahan, a corrupt, self-serving, NRA-endorsed congressman who will do nothing more than be a rubber stamp for Donald Trump and his dangerous agenda, back to Washington DC—or they can send a strong champion in Mayor Paige Cognetti, who will respect the rights of gun owners while also staying committed to fighting for a better future for the next generation. With so much on the line, it’s imperative that we flip this seat next November.
