Representative Pat Ryan is a fifth-generation New York native and proud West Point graduate who lives by the school’s motto: Duty, Honor, Country. In the military, he swore an oath to support and defend the constitution and to protect the American people—and in Congress, he has continued to honor it by working to keep his constituents safe from senseless gun violence. 

As a combat veteran, Representative Ryan firmly believes that the weapons of war he used in Iraq have no place in schools or houses of worship—and in Washington DC, he has worked diligently to get dangerous firearms off the streets. Representative Ryan is no stranger to supporting and defending commonsense gun safety laws: In 2019, as Ulster County executive, he led a coordinated effort between law enforcement, local government, and educators to implement New York’s extreme risk law. After the Supreme Court’s ruling in NYSRPA v. Bruen invalidated New York’s concealed carry law, he brought the dangerous ramifications of this decision to the forefront of his campaign and was victorious in a special election that was widely viewed as a bellwether on so many issues—including how the public felt about gun safety. If reelected this fall, Representative Ryan will continue to push for lifesaving solutions designed to stop gun violence, like expanding background checks to all gun sales and funding lifesaving community violence intervention programs. 

In 2022, voters in New York stepped up to the plate in one of the closest elections across the country and sent Pat Ryan back to Washington DC to fight on their behalf. They knew that in him, New Yorkers would have a true champion who would always put their safety first and never fall victim to the corrupt influences of the gun lobby. We must reelect Representative Ryan this fall so he can continue the important work of saving lives from senseless violence in a new gun safety majority.
