As chair of the Virginia House Public Safety Committee, Delegate Patrick Hope played an instrumental role in passing some of the strongest gun safety legislation in Virginia’s history—including bills to require universal background checks, mandate that gun owners report lost or stolen firearms, and prohibit firearms in government buildings. Delegate Hope knows our children deserve to live free from the threat of gun violence. He’s taken crucial steps to help them grow and thrive, including working to pass bills to strengthen penalties for gun owners who leave firearms unsecured in places that endanger children, require home day cares to lock up firearms, and prohibit teachers from carrying guns in the classroom. He also played a crucial role in enacting Virginia’s extreme risk protective order law, which allows law enforcement to temporarily confiscate firearms from individuals deemed a risk to themselves or others. With so much on the line this fall, it’s imperative that we reelect leaders who will never tire in the fight to protect every Virginian from senseless violence—starting with Delegate Patrick Hope.
