Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser has dedicated his life to justice, public service, and the law. Whether he is protecting election integrity, revitalizing consumer protections, or combating gun violence, Attorney General Weiser has put the people of Colorado first time and time again. In recent years Colorado has experienced some of the deadliest instances of gun violence in American history. Since taking office Attorney General Weiser has worked tirelessly to combat the continuing threat of gun violence to ensure his constituents remain safe.
In 2019, Colorado passed extreme risk protection order legislation, which allows a judge to issue a ban on someone possessing a firearm for up to 364 days if the court determines that the individual poses a significant risk of hurting themselves or others. When the law was challenged in court, Attorney General Weiser successfully defended this common sense gun safety measure – protecting countless lives in the process. In recent years he has worked to expand education and outreach regarding the extreme risk protection order process because he understands that expanding our education, awareness, and training efforts are all key parts of gun violence prevention. In doing so, Attorney General Weiser made clear that he understands gun violence prevention works best as a coordinated effort. In his current role he has developed strong partnerships with agencies across Colorado to prevent suicide and gun violence. He has also partnered with local law enforcement officials across Colorado to remind firearm owners to safely secure their guns when not in use in order to reduce the number of guns stolen each year.
With gun violence and gun crimes rising across the country, it is vital that we elect leaders who will champion policies that will make communities safer. Throughout his career, Attorney General Phil Weiser has shown a steadfast commitment to finding solutions that will combat the epidemic of gun violence and promote gun safety. We know that if he is reelected, he will continue to fight to create a safer state for families in Colorado.
