The son of Mexican immigrants, Randy grew up in California’s Central Valley and understands firsthand the challenges many working families face. Raised in a household that relied on programs like Medi-Cal and WIC to make ends meet, he learned early on the importance of hard work, perseverance, and giving back to others. Through education and determination, Randy became the first person in his family to earn a PhD, and he has dedicated his career to helping others achieve the same opportunities as a college professor, mentor, small business owner, and community leader. Today, he is running for Congress to ensure that Central Valley families have a representative who will put their needs first and fight for a safer, more prosperous future.

As an educator and school board trustee, Randy has seen the devastating reality that gun violence has imposed on schools and communities across America. While serving on his local school board, he helped secure funding to provide active shooter training throughout the district because he believes schools must be prepared to protect students and staff in the event of a crisis. But Randy also knows that preparation alone is not enough. No parent should have to worry about whether their child will return home safely from school, and no student should grow up believing mass shootings are simply a fact of life. That is why he supports commonsense gun safety measures that can help prevent violence before it happens and keep dangerous weapons out of the wrong hands. In Congress, Randy will work to advance proven solutions that protect communities while respecting responsible gun ownership, ensuring that families can feel safe in their schools, places of worship, grocery stores, and neighborhoods.
