Assemblymember Rudy Salas is a lifelong Central Valley resident who worked his way from laboring in the fields with his father to becoming the first ever Latino member of the Bakersfield City Council. Now, he is running to flip California’s 22nd Congressional District to ensure that his constituents once again have a gun safety champion fighting on their behalf in Washington DC. 

Throughout his five terms in the state legislature, Assemblymember Salas has made it clear that while he supports responsible gun ownership, he believes that we must do more to keep California communities safe from senseless violence. His home state has some of the strongest and most effective gun violence laws in the country, and its low rates of violence reflect that they work. In Congress, Assemblymember Salas will advocate for commonsense gun safety legislation to expand background checks to all gun sales and keep firearms out of the hands of those seeking to do harm to themselves or others. He also understands that gun violence is multifaceted and intends to fight for the expansion of community violence intervention programs and funding for research into the root causes of America’s gun violence epidemic.

The race in California’s 22nd District is set to be one of the closest in the nation this fall, and we must ensure that Assemblymember Rudy Salas is victorious in November. With him helping to lead the way in Washington DC, Central Valley families can rest easy knowing that their elected representative in Congress will always put their safety first, not the corrupt interests of the corporate gun lobby.
