In 2023, Saddam Salim made gun violence prevention a central focus of his primary campaign for Virginia Senate, making history by ousting a 16-year incumbent in an upset victory and proving that candidates can run on this issue and win. Each month, Salim stands outside the NRA’s headquarters with gun safety advocates to hold a vigil for victims of gun violence, and he knows that we must do more to protect the next generation from the dangers of senseless shootings. If elected, he will support legislation to strengthen and expand restrictions on the ability of domestic abusers to obtain firearms, improve the Commonwealth’s safe storage laws, restrict the proliferation and sale of ghost guns, and strengthen Virginia’s extreme risk law. This progress will only be possible if gun safety champions maintain their majority in the Virginia Senate and flip control of the House of Delegates. With so much on the line, it’s more important than ever that voters elect committed champions like Saddam Salim this November.
