Majority Leader Sandra Jauregui has dedicated her career to fighting for working families and building a safer Nevada. The proud daughter of Mexican immigrants and a first-generation American, Representative Jauregui was raised with the values of hard work, resilience, and service to others. After moving to Las Vegas to attend UNLV, she began her career helping families navigate housing insecurity during the Great Recession through nonprofit and state housing relief programs, including Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto’s housing program. Those experiences shaped her commitment to public service and her belief that leaders have a responsibility to protect and serve their communities.
Since being elected to the Nevada Assembly, and now serving as majority leader, Representative Jauregui has emerged as one of Nevada’s strongest champions for gun violence prevention and public safety. A survivor of the Route 91 Harvest Festival mass shooting in Las Vegas, she turned personal tragedy into action and has led efforts to enact lifesaving gun safety reforms across the state. Representative Jauregui helped lead the fight to ban bump stocks and ghost guns, enact red flag laws and child safe storage requirements, and strengthen universal background checks. She has also championed legislation to ban guns at polling locations and raise the age to purchase assault style rifles to 21. Throughout her time in office, Representative Jauregui has remained steadfast in her belief that no family or community should have to experience the trauma of gun violence.
At a time when extremists and the corporate gun lobby are working to roll back lifesaving laws across the country, Nevada needs leaders who will continue standing up for safer communities and putting public safety first.
