Like so many others in the movement for gun safety, Representative Sara Jacobs knows that it’s time for Congress to stop playing politics with people’s lives. At just 33 years old, Representative Jacobs is the youngest member of California’s congressional delegation and is part of a new generation of leaders in Washington that are determined to end America’s epidemic of gun violence once and for all. In her first term in office, Representative Jacobs has been unparalleled in her determination to find commonsense ways to protect San Diegans from harm. 
 
She has worked to hold gun manufacturers and gun store owners accountable when their products are sold and used illegally, and she has wasted no time in signing on to legislation that would help save lives—including bills to expand background checks to all gun sales, combat illegal gun trafficking, and allocate additional federal funding for entities like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and National Institutes of Health to study gun violence as a public health threat. She also supports extreme risk protection order laws, which allow courts to seize weapons from someone they deem a risk to themselves or others, and federal grants to community-based violence prevention programs that do critical work to support communities that are disproportionately affected by gun violence. As someone who recognizes the intrinsic link between gun violence and domestic violence, Representative Jacobs also voted to reauthorize  the Violence Against Women Act. 
 
With so much on the line this November, it is more important than ever that we protect our majority in the House by reelecting gun safety champions like Representative Sara Jacobs. We know that she has the courage to act to end gun violence, and the people of Southern California deserve a legislator like her.
