Representative Scott Peters knows that we need to do more to keep our children safe from harm. He has been a strong supporter of gun safety measures since first coming to Congress in 2013, where he has worked diligently to pass the kinds of comprehensive reforms needed to curb America’s deadly epidemic of gun violence.
In June 2016, Representative Peters live-streamed a sit-in on the House floor where he and fellow lawmakers urged Republican leaders to do their jobs. On numerous occasions, he has read the names of gun violence victims on the House floor to remind his colleagues of the human toll of their inaction. In office, Representative Peters has voted for every gun safety reform bill put before the House. This year, he was especially proud to help pass the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act and the Assault Weapons Ban Act of 2022. Representatative Peters is the lead author of the STANDUP Act, which became law in March of 2022 and encouraged schools to implement evidence-based suicide awareness and mental health training in grades 6-12.
The 2022 election cycle is shaping up to be one of the closest in years, and it is incumbent on all of us to ensure that Congress retains the power to enact meaningful gun safety reforms. Representative Scott Peters knows that inaction on gun violence is simply not an option. In order to continue making progress towards a nation free from gun violence, we must reelect Representative Peters this fall.
