Former Senator Sherrod Brown has always believed that when you love your country, you fight for the people who make it run—and in the US Senate, he did just that for three terms by working to keep communities across Ohio safe from senseless gun violence. Throughout his decades long career in public service—from his time as Ohio’s secretary of state to his seven terms as a member of the US House, and for 18 years as one of his state’s US senators—Senator Brown was never afraid to stand up to special interests like the gun lobby and put the well-being of his constituents first. And now, with so much chaos still coming out of Washington DC, he’s making the courageous decision to step back into the fray and seek a comeback. He knows there’s still plenty of work to be done to keep moving this country forward.

During his years in the Senate, Senator Brown was a champion for many of the lifesaving measures that can curb our country’s epidemic of gun violence, including expanding background checks to all gun sales and providing desperately needed funding to lifesaving community violence intervention programs. In 2022, Senator Brown joined colleagues on both sides of the aisle to pass the first major gun safety legislation in nearly 30 years, the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which helped disarm domestic abusers and made gun trafficking a federal crime. Senator Brown also consistently called for the passage of legislation to ensure that gun owners safely store their weapons and to implement extreme risk protection order laws that would help keep guns away from people who pose a risk to themselves or others. Once he’s back in Washington DC, he’ll fight to get these critical pieces of legislation across the finish line once and for all.

Next fall, Senator Brown’s comeback campaign will likely be one of the tightest races in the country, and his victory is the key to reestablishing a gun safety majority in the US Senate. With so much on the line in 2026, it’s imperative that Ohioans of every background mobilize like never before to send this principled, measured public servant back to Washington DC.
