For Congressman Shomari Figures, Alabama is home. It’s where he was raised in his grandfather’s church and where he was educated from kindergarten to law school. Inspired by his parents, who devoted their careers to public service and helping Alabamians, Congressman Figures has dedicated his life’s work to advocating for his community at every level of government—because he knows that Alabama deserves better than to have the fourth-highest rate of gun violence in the country.
Throughout his career, Congressman Figures has held many titles. He was a law clerk on the federal court, President Obama’s domestic director of presidential personnel, a White House liaison at the Department of Justice, a counsel in the US Senate, and deputy chief of staff and counselor to Attorney General Merrick Garland—and now he’s the voice for Alabama’s Second District on Capitol Hill. But none of these roles is more important to Figures than being a father to three children. He knows that we owe their generation the chance to live free from gun violence—and if reelected to Congress, he’ll continue the important work he’s done to reduce gun violence by expanding background checks to all gun sales, banning bump stocks and assault weapons, implementing red flag laws that are designed to disarm those who pose threats to themselves or others, and adequately funding lifesaving community violence intervention programs.
It’s imperative that we flip the House in 2026, reclaim a gun safety majority in the chamber, and get back to passing the desperately needed policies that the American people demand—but Alabama Republicans are determined to stop that momentum in its tracks by working to rig the maps and make it harder for voters to send Congressman Figures back to Washington DC. We cannot let them win, and we are ready to work tirelessly to ensure that come 2027, Representative Shomari Figures can continue to lead the way on gun safety in Washington DC and achieve real progress in the fight to save lives.
