For decades, Congresswoman Susie Lee has been a strong advocate on behalf of Nevada’s children and families. Congresswoman Lee quickly developed an acute awareness of the impact gun violence has on our communities through her work addressing the inequities that face our nation’s schoolchildren
In October of 2017, Congresswoman Lee’s own city of Las Vegas became the site of the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history when a gunman opened fire on the Route 91 Harvest music festival, shooting more than 400 people and killing 60. Like many Nevadans, Representative Lee has friends who experienced the shooting and are still dealing with the trauma that accompanied it—and she knew she needed to take action.
In 2018, Congresswoman Lee joined our founder, former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, on the campaign trail to hear from gun violence survivors, student activists, and community organizers. Once elected to Congress, she wasted no time in making the voices of those impacted in Las Vegas heard at the national level by voting to pass bipartisan legislation to implement universal background checks and close the boyfriend and stalker loopholes. Congresswoman Lee was instrumental in ushering in the first dedicated federal funding for gun violence research in more than two decades when Congress appropriated $25 million to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and National Institutes of Health in 2019. In 2022, Congresswoman Lee also helped pass the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act—and since this landmark measure was signed into law, more than $3 million has come to Nevada to combat gun violence and support mental health initiatives.
Congresswoman Susie Lee is committed to continuing to work across the aisle to find bipartisan solutions to prevent senseless acts of gun violence and to keep our communities and children safe. We need to send her back to Congress in 2025 to continue her fight on behalf of hardworking Nevadans, and we know that she is exactly the right candidate to help us win and take back our gun safety majority in November.
