Tom Keen is a military veteran who has committed his life to serving the country he loves—both in the armed forces and now in his pursuit of public office in Florida’s 35th House district. Keen has spent his post-military career focused on continuing to give back to his community and has actively been involved with the City of Orlando Citizens’ Police Review Board and the Mayor’s Veterans Advisory Council. These experiences have given Keen a unique perspective on the issue of gun violence, and he is eager to advocate for the meaningful, commonsense solutions to curb violence in office. 

While Keen recognizes the importance of responsible gun ownership and supports the Second Amendment, he also understands the urgent need to address the root causes of Florida’s gun violence epidemic. Having witnessed the devastation caused by firearms in the hands of those battling severe mental health challenges, including PTSD, Keen is ready to work across the aisle to expand background checks to all gun sales and improve his state’s extreme risk protection order law so firearms can be temporarily removed from those who pose a risk of harming themselves or others. For too long, radical politicians in the legislature have been focused on flooding the Sunshine State’s streets with deadly weapons and rolling back lifesaving gun safety legislation. This year, voters must send a pragmatic, solutions-oriented leader like Tom Keen to Tallahassee to restore decency to office and help build a safer future for the next generation.
