Throughout his career, Attorney General William Tong has been an unmatched leader in the fight to end gun violence. Whether as a state legislator or in the attorney general’s office, Attorney General Tong has been one of the leading voices to end the gun violence epidemic in Connecticut. His words and actions have made clear Connecticut’s families are his top priority and he will never lose focus on finding ways to make Connecticut safer.
In the state assembly, Attorney General Tong was one of the leading voices in drafting and passing some of the nation’s strongest gun violence prevention laws in the wake of the Sandy Hook tragedy. As co-chair of the Judiciary Committee, he led efforts to ban bump stocks, take guns out of the hands of those who commit domestic abuse, and ban ghost guns. During his time as attorney general, Attorney General Tong has defended commonsense gun violence prevention measures, including federal ghost gun regulations, state bans on large capacity magazines, and limitations on the public carry of firearms. He has joined amicus briefs in every significant case where gun laws have been challenged, and when the Trump administration attempted to enable the distribution of 3D-printed ghost gun blueprints, Attorney General Tong pushed back against this dangerous proposal. He knows that in the wake of the US Supreme Court decision in Bruen, Connecticut will soon see a wave of litigation—coordinated by out-of-state extremists—aimed at rolling back Connecticut’s post-Sandy Hook laws. He has vowed to vigorously defend Connecticut’s lifesaving public safety laws against any and every one of these baseless challenges.
Attorney General William Tong has built a career fighting against the radical agenda of the gun lobby and for strong gun safety measures. As rates of gun violence spike to record highs, electing gun safety attorneys general like him has become essential. We know he will never stop fighting to protect communities in his state.
