As a pediatrician who was confronted daily with the fact that firearms are now the leading cause of death among children, Representative Yadira Caraveo has been steadfast in her belief that we must do more to protect our communities from senseless acts of violence. In the state legislature, Representative Caraveo supported the establishment of extreme risk protection order laws, and in Congress, she has continued to support commonsense gun safety legislation.

In Washington DC, Representative Caraveo has been driven by the same values her parents taught her and her siblings as children—to work hard, to always finish what you’ve started, and to jump in to help without being asked—and she’s been a sensible fighter for Coloradans long ignored on Capitol Hill, particularly those of Brown, Black, and Indigenous communities. In office, Representative Caraveo has signed onto three discharge petitions to force congressional action on the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, a measure to ban assault weapons, and legislation to close the Charleston Loophole. She has also cosponsored the Keep Americans Safe Act, which would establish a new criminal offense for the import, sale, manufacture, transfer, or possession of a large-capacity ammunition feeding device. 

Last cycle, Representative Caraveo’s race was one of the closest in the country. With so much on the line this fall, we must reelect legislators who understand that America’s epidemic of gun violence is a devastating public health crisis. We know that with Representative Caraveo in office, Colorandans can rest assured that their congresswoman will always be a sensible, responsible voice for progress on this issue. Representative Yadira Caraveo is at the forefront of the new generation of leaders on Capitol Hill and we must ensure she remains in Congress come 2025.
