Texas has no extreme risk protection order law. In 2025, Texas passed a law prohibiting local governments from adopting or enforcing their own extreme risk protection order ordinances or policies.1 The bill also made it a felony offense for anyone, including law enforcement, to serve or enforce, or attempt to serve or enforce, an out-of-state extreme risk protective order on someone in Texas.2
