David Murphy joined GIFFORDS Law Center in early 2026. As a member of the litigation team, he helps devise and pursue affirmative legal strategies to advance gun safety reforms, reduce gun violence, and hold the gun industry accountable. His work also includes defending commonsense gun safety laws against constitutional challenges.

Prior to joining GIFFORDS Law Center, David served as a law clerk for the Honorable Lara Montecalvo at the US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and for the Honorable Allison Burroughs at the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts. He also practiced as a litigation associate at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP. David received his JD from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, where he co-led the Youth Advocacy Project. He is a former public school teacher and a graduate of Colby College.
