Jeanette Richardson is the mother of Patrick McKinley. Patrick was an 18-year-old college freshman at the Ringling College of Art and Design when he was gunned down randomly in front of his home in Newport News, Virginia, on New Year’s Eve 2004. Patrick was involved with gun violence prevention before his murder. He had watched Bowling for Columbine with his freshman class in the weeks before his life was taken so senselessly. Jeanette wasted no time getting involved with gun violence prevention after her son’s death. She traveled to Richmond with the Virginia Center for Public Safety and joined the Million Mom March as well as the Brady Campaign immediately after her loss.
