Paul Chapman

Paul Chapman has been a member of the GIFFORDS Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence board since 2016. He has had a long career in education and served for over 25 years as principal of the Head-Royce School, a K–12 school in Oakland, California. Previously he was assistant head and academic dean at San Francisco University High School and associate director of admissions at Reed College in Portland, Oregon. For over four decades he has been engaged in the gun violence prevention movement, and as a former school principal he is especially focused on addressing the danger gun violence poses to the safety of our children and youth and of our schools and colleges. He serves on several boards in addition to GIFFORDS Law Center’s and works as an educational consultant developing sustainable schools. Raised near Chicago, Paul has a master’s degree in American history and a PhD in the history of education from Stanford University.
