Connecticut-based gun lobby sends McCormick campaign cash

Gun industry trade association knows Dave McCormick, also a Connecticut resident, will fight for them, not Pennsylvanians

WASHINGTON — Today, the national gun violence prevention organization GIFFORDS, founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, criticized Pennsylvania Senate candidate Dave McCormick for accepting financial support from the corporate gun industry’s trade association while gun violence remains a threat to Pennsylvania families and the leading cause of death for American children and adolescents. The contribution from NSSF PAC was unearthed in the group’s pre-election campaign financial disclosure with the Federal Election Commission. McCormick received $2,500, a significant portion of the $7,524 NSSF PAC reported raising in the same period.

NSSF is based in Shelton, Connecticut, a short drive from McCormick’s Connecticut home.

“Keeping Pennsylvania schools and communities safe from gun violence requires leaders to stand up to the gun lobby, not cash their checks. The gun lobby is all in for McCormick because they know he won’t lift a finger to close the loopholes that let criminals and dangerous people get guns,” said GIFFORDS Executive Director Emma Brown. “Gun violence kills 1,900 Pennsylvanians each year, and injures thousands more, yet Dave McCormick laughed off efforts to confront this public health crisis, calling them ‘silliness.’ Thankfully, Pennsylvania voters can trust that Bob Casey will never risk their families’ safety for campaign cash.”

Last week, GIFFORDS PAC announced digital ads against McCormick as part of its $15 million commitment to electing and supporting gun safety champions in 2024. Echoing the gun lobby, McCormick infamously derided efforts to confront gun violence as a public health crisis by calling it “silliness.”
