GIFFORDS applauds Governor Stein for vetoing dangerous permitless carry bill
“This veto was commonsense, and North Carolina’s legislature must uphold it.”
WASHINGTON — GIFFORDS, the gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, applauded North Carolina Governor Josh Stein for vetoing a permitless carry bill that would have allowed people with no experience handling firearms and who had never passed a background check to carry hidden, loaded guns in public.
“GIFFORDS applauds Governor Stein for vetoing this dangerous permitless carry bill,” said Emma Brown, Executive Director at GIFFORDS. “Gun homicides in North Carolina have nearly doubled in the last decade. It is time to close loopholes in our gun laws, not open up new ones. Permitless carry would enable anyone to carry a concealed gun wherever they want, easily allowing dangerous people to carry guns in public. Governor Stein’s veto today was commonsense, and North Carolina’s legislature must uphold it.”
