North Dakota law does not require a background check on firearm sales or transfers by unlicensed sellers.
The state does have certain prohibitions on transferring firearms to prohibited people. North Dakota prohibits supplying a firearm or ammunition to a person the transferor knows or has reasonable cause to believe is prohibited from possessing them under state law.1 North Dakota prohibits any person from transferring a handgun to any such a person.2
