April 9, 2013 For Immediate Release: Statement of Pia Carusone, Executive Director and Co-founder, Americans for Responsible Solutions: ”The Senate must act this Thursday to break the partisan, craven attempt by 13 Senators to filibuster gun safety legislation. Refusing to even debate the bill is an affront to the memories of the twenty first graders who lost their lives in the classrooms of Connecticut, the six Arizonans who lost their lives coming to meet their congresswoman in Tucson, and the thousands and thousands of our fellow citizens who lose their lives uneccessarily to gun violence every year. More than 90 percent of Americans support universal background checks to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill. Any Senator who would leave Congress in silence and stalemate when Americans simply want to be safe in their communities will find themselves on the wrong side of history and the losing side of their next election. We’ll be here to make sure of that.”
