Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and Captain Mark Kelly Respond to the Gun Tragedy in Burlington, Washington

September 24, 2016– Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and Navy combat veteran and NASA astronaut Captain Mark Kelly, the Co-Founders of the gun violence prevention organization Americans for Responsible Solutions, issued the below statement today responding to the mass shooting last night at the Cascade Mall in Burlington, Washington that has left five people dead.

“It happened again. “Another of America’s communities has been shattered by a gun tragedy. On a quiet Friday night, innocent, unsuspecting Americans were set upon with a gun. Once again, innocent lives have been cut short. “The five lives taken last night are among the 91 who are taken on a typical day in our country. And so our gun violence crisis rages on. “This is not the America we strive for. We have to do better than this. “We mourn for those lost and pray for comfort for their loved ones. And we are grateful to the first responders and law enforcement officers who put themselves in harm’s way to help bring this dangerous, tragic situation to an end.” “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Burlington community and the people of the Evergreen State.”
