Condemning Trump’s Defense of Kenosha Vigilante Charged with Murder

August 31, 2020 — Today Giffords, the gun safety organization co-founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, condemned President Trump for defending the armed vigilante from Illinois who drove to Kenosha, Wisconsin, then shot and killed two demonstrators protesting Jacob Blake’s shooting by police.

Statement from Peter Ambler, Giffords Executive Director:

“President Trump shouts ‘law and order,’ but a president who defends the murderer of two protesters is incapable of keeping us safe. This is just another example of Trump’s long, shameful record of promoting violence while opposing even the most basic gun safety laws. He actively fans the flames of hate and encourages more violence from his supporters. President Trump has no business visiting Kenosha because he has shown that he has no interest in helping the community heal. Today was another clear reminder that we desperately need a change in leadership to reform policing, unite our country, and finally address the country’s gun violence crisis.”
