Giffords Backs Gun Safety Champion RJ Neary for Omaha Mayoral Race
Washington DC — Giffords, the gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, announced its endorsement of RJ Neary for Mayor in Omaha, Nebraska. The endorsement follows a fatal shooting at a Nebraska shopping mall over the weekend and an array of mass shootings across the country over the last few weeks.
“RJ Neary has spent his career working to help his community and build a stronger future for all Omahans. He understands the toll that gun violence has had on the city and has shown a clear, unwavering commitment to help save lives,” said Joanna Belanger, Giffords Political Director. “We know that RJ will make a difference by working with law enforcement, community leaders and stakeholders to make Omaha safer for everyone. We are proud to endorse RJ Neary to be the 52nd Mayor of Omaha.”
“Gun violence is one of the top public health threats in our community,” said RJ Neary. “ I’m honored to have the endorsement of Giffords PAC, and look forward to working tirelessly to make Omaha a gun safe community. In light of recent tragedies at Westroads Mall and across the country, it’s clear all of us need to do more to reduce gun violence.”
As a lifelong resident of Omaha, Neary has served as chair of the Omaha Planning Board. Neary further serves his community working in real estate and is involved in the Omaha by Design Board of Directors, Urban Land Institute, Omaha Habitat for Humanity and Catholic Charities. As Mayor, Neary will champion sensible gun violence prevention measures, including evidence-based community violence intervention programs.
