When Will Lawmakers Have the Courage to Act? Three Dead, More Than 25 Injured in Two Mass Shootings in South Florida

Last night, in two separate mass shootings in South Florida, three people were killed and more than 25 people were injured. There have now been more than 230 mass shootings in 2021 in the United States and lawmakers in Washington have failed to pass any gun safety laws to address the epidemic.

Former Congresswoman and Giffords Senior Advisor Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, a resident of South Florida, called on lawmakers to take action in the wake of these shootings.

Giffords Senior Advisor Debbie Mucarsel-Powell

“My heart aches for the families in South Florida dealing with the loss of loved ones and for those who now must live each day with trauma brought by gun violence. Every time we want to heal our latest wounds another senseless act of gun violence affects our communities. Nothing about this is normal or acceptable. We cannot allow ourselves to be numb to the devastating toll of violence and pain on communities across this country.

How many more lives must be lost and how many more tears must be shed before lawmakers find the courage to act?”
