Giffords Endorses Senator Michael Bennet for the US Senate

WASHINGTON, DCGiffords PAC, the gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, announced today it is endorsing Michael Bennet for reelection to the US Senate. The announcement was made during a virtual event hosted by Giffords PAC. Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, Giffords Senior Advisor Ryan Busse, and Giffords Gun Owners for Safety members joined Senator Bennet in a conversation on responsible gun ownership. Michael Bennet has dedicated his life to public service and has passionately fought to improve the lives of his constituents and strengthen public safety.

Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords:

“Michael Bennet has been a champion in the Senate for gun safety for over a decade. He understands how important it is to protect Coloradans from gun violence, and acts on that conviction. I know Senator Bennet will continue to work across the aisle to push for commonsense measures that reduce gun violence, protect families, and save lives. Senator Bennet will stand up to the gun lobby and be a strong voice for change. I am proud to endorse Michael Bennet for US Senate.”

Senator Michael Bennet:

“For years, gun violence has been a stain on Colorado’s history and too many families have lost loved ones to senseless tragedies. I’m committed to ending this epidemic in its tracks, and I am grateful to partner with heroes like Gabby Giffords to keep our communities safe. Together, we can create a brighter future for Coloradans and I am thrilled to receive Giffords PAC’s endorsement in this race.”

Michael Bennet has been a longstanding advocate for commonsense gun safety. As Colorado’s senior senator, he has consistently pushed for commonsense solutions to the issues impacting people of all walks of life across his state, and Colorado residents have sent him back to the Senate to continue this important work—re-electing him to a full term in 2010 and again in 2016. After tragic mass shootings like those in Aurora and Boulder, Senator Bennet has passionately called for comprehensive, bipartisan solutions to stop the violence plaguing cities and towns across our country.

After the Colorado legislature took decisive action by closing dangerous loopholes in its own gun laws, Senator Bennet called for the US Senate to follow his state’s example by expanding universal background checks to all gun sales at the federal level. During his nearly 13 years in the Senate, he has championed legislation to bar perpetrators of domestic violence from being able to access firearms and repeatedly urged his colleagues to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act. Giffords is proud to endorse Michael Bennet for the US Senate.
