Giffords PAC Endorses Cheri Beasley for US Senate

Washington, DC – Today Giffords PAC, the gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, endorsed Cheri Beasley for US Senate. Beasley, who previously served as Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court, is a dedicated public servant who will work hard on behalf of North Carolinians to pass needed gun safety reform. Giffords PAC invested $1 million in direct mail advertising in the 2020 election supporting gun safety candidates up and down the ballot in North Carolina. Giffords PAC also invested $1.3 million in North Carolina races in 2014.

Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords:

“Cheri Beasley embodies all the qualities of a selfless and dedicated public servant. She’s had an exemplary career on the bench, and I know she will work just as hard in the Senate for the people of North Carolina. Ending gun violence is possible as long as we elect leaders who have the courage to stand up to the gun lobby and work to secure the gun safety legislation we desperately need. Judge Beasley is one of those leaders. We need Cheri Beasley in the US Senate and I am proud to endorse her candidacy today.

US Senate Candidate Cheri Beasley:

“Every North Carolinian deserves to feel safe in their homes, schools and communities, and I’m grateful to earn the endorsement of Giffords PAC as we work toward this goal. In the Senate, I will work alongside them to end gun violence.”

From the very start of her career, Cheri Beasley has worked to give back to her community by standing up for its most vulnerable. Beasley has served as a judge for over 20 years, including serving as Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court. Throughout her service as a judge, Beasley worked to keep communities safe, uphold the rule of law, and protect the constitutional rights of North Carolinians. She and her husband Curtis are the parents of twins who are now 21, and as a mom she understands many of the challenges facing North Carolina families.

If elected to the Senate, Beasley will once again break a historic barrier as the first African American woman to serve as Senator for North Carolina. In Cheri Beasley, we will also have a champion who believes that we must keep our children and communities safe by implementing commonsense gun safety measures like universal background checks, encouraging safe firearm storage, and closing loopholes to prevent domestic abusers from being able to obtain a gun. She will also work to stop the plague of mass shootings across our communities by keeping combat-style weapons and high-capacity magazines off our streets and away from our schools. Cheri Beasley will work hard to pass the gun safety legislation our country sorely needs. Giffords PAC is proud to endorse her bid for Senate.
