Giffords Endorses Val Hoyle for the US House of Representatives
Washington DC — Today, Giffords PAC, the gun safety organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, announced its endorsement of Val Hoyle for the US House of Representatives in Oregon’s 4th Congressional District.

Val has taken crucial steps to combat senseless gun violence throughout her state, like championing the passage of Oregon’s universal background checks law and legislation to keep guns out of the hands of individuals who commit domestic abuse. Oregon needs a leader who will continue to stand up to the reckless gun lobby, and that leader is Val Hoyle. I’ve been honored to work hand in hand with Val over the years to make meaningful change, and I know she will continue to be an effective partner in Congress. In the state legislature, Hoyle led efforts to pass Oregon’s universal background checks law and played a crucial role in securing the votes necessary to prohibit individuals with a record of domestic violence restraining orders from possessing a firearm. Like many leaders in this movement, Hoyle’s work to pass commonsense gun safety legislation was met with protests from the gun lobby and its enablers, and she was forced to beat back an unsuccessful recall attempt against her—illustrating her determination in the fight to end America’s gun violence epidemic.
As Oregon’s Labor Commissioner—a role that oversees the state’s labor force, helps support local businesses and ensures the fair treatment of workers—Hoyle has placed a significant focus on suicide prevention and mental health awareness among apprentices in the skilled trades. While firearms are used in just a small fraction of suicide attempts, they are responsible for a majority of American suicide deaths because they are so uniquely lethal. Hoyle’s work on this issue is saving countless lives, and we know she will be a strong advocate for similar measures in Washington DC.
With the House majority on the line this November, it is critical to elect committed gun safety champions with a record of service and wins, like Val Hoyle, to Congress this fall. Republicans have targeted this seat for years, and we cannot let them roll back progress on this issue. Hoyle has proven time and again that she can overcome enormous odds, and she is exactly the right candidate to win in November.
