Former Congresswoman Giffords Statement on Mass Shooting in Cleveland, TX

Washington DC — Today, former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, founder of the gun violence prevention organization GIFFORDS, released the following statement after five people, including an eight-year-old child, were killed in a mass shooting at a home in Cleveland, Texas.

    Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords:

“My heart hurts for the families of those killed and injured in Texas last night. I know firsthand how horrific scenes like the one in Cleveland, Texas, can forever change the people and communities left reeling in their wake.

“A disagreement between neighbors instantly turned into a mass murder because of the presence of a gun. Tragedies like this are not inevitable, but they will continue unless and until those in a position of power listen to the people. We must continue speaking out until change happens.”
