GIFFORDS PAC Endorses Heather Boyd in Special Election for Pennsylvania House of Representatives
Washington DC — Today, GIFFORDS PAC, the gun safety organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, announced its endorsement of Heather Boyd in Pennsylvania’s 163rd House district.
Kate Moore, GIFFORDS Political Director:
“For too long, legislative inaction by Republicans in Harrisburg has fueled Pennsylvania’s gun violence epidemic and made communities across the Commonwealth less safe. In 2022, voters made it clear that they’d had enough—flipping the Pennsylvania House for the first time in more than a decade and installing a gun safety majority that would finally do the real work needed to save lives. With the fate of that majority now hanging in the balance, the stakes in the special election in the 163rd district could not be higher. Voters must rally behind Heather Boyd, a gun safety champion who will always put their safety first. In office, she’ll be a strong voice for commonsense solutions and help forge a future free of gun violence for the next generation. GIFFORDS PAC is proud to endorse her in this must-win race.”
Heather Boyd:
“We can address gun violence, but it will take all of us. We need elected officials who will stand up to the gun lobby and implement sensible gun safety legislation. We need anti-poverty measures, opportunities for young people and gun storage safety measures. We need gun violence intervention programs and background checks to keep guns out of the wrong hands. I am proud to stand with gun violence prevention organizations like Giffords PAC. I’m honored to receive their endorsement in this Special Election for State House, and I will work closely with a gun safety majority to close loopholes and protect Pennsylvanians from gun violence in Harrisburg. Together we can create a safer community.”
Throughout her career, Heather Boyd has been a champion for children and families—working alongside teachers and school counselors in Upper Darby to advocate for commonsense solutions to the gun violence epidemic that is putting too many students at risk. As a mother and a grandmother, Boyd is committed to securing needed funding for community violence intervention programs and passing laws to strengthen background checks and safe storage requirements. In office, she will also be a strong advocate for legislation that would close the kinds of gun sale loopholes that allow individuals who commit domestic abuse and those with a known history of wanting to hurt themselves or others to obtain weapons.
