GIFFORDS Florida Statement on Hollywood Beach Shooting
Miami, FL — Today, GIFFORDS Florida, the gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released the following statement after nine people were shot in Hollywood Beach on Memorial Day.

“Families enjoying a day by the beach will now forever be traumatized by this incident of senseless gun violence. Nine people, including four children, will have to face the difficult recovery of a gunshot wound. This incident has marred Memorial Day in America, a day where we honor those who lost their lives fighting for our freedom. Now, our children have no freedom to live their lives without the fear of being shot. Unfortunately, thanks to Governor DeSantis these incidents will most likely become more common in our state because of his ‘anyone with a gun’ law. We need commonsense regulations like universal background checks to ensure guns don’t continue to get into the wrong hands. GIFFORDS Florida stands with the Hollywood Beach community and we won’t stop fighting for a safer future.”
