Padma Lakshmi Calls for More Action on Gun Safety with GIFFORDS

Washington DC — Today, GIFFORDS, the gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released a new video on the progress made over the past year with the passage and implementation of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act—and on the need for Congress to finish the job.

GIFFORDS Partner, Padma Lakshmi, narrates the video.

“The tide is shifting. We’re turning outrage into action—and it’s working,” says Lakshmi in the video. “Since Uvalde, we’ve made unprecedented progress: the strongest federal legislation in 30 years, 91 strong state bills in 2022. Lawmakers took action because we demanded it. Our movement is stronger than ever. This wouldn’t have happened 10 years ago. This wouldn’t have happened without you. But the job is far from done. We’re tired of losing loved ones. We’re fed up with inaction in the face of violence. We’ll keep fighting—step by step, state by state—until every community is safer.”
