GIFFORDS Condemns RFK Jr. for Elevating Conspiracy Theorist Aaron Rodgers

“If Aaron Rodgers’s fringe views and behavior have disqualified him from appearing in ads, they sure as hell disqualify him from the White House.”

Washington DC — Today, GIFFORDS, the national gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, rebuked Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for elevating the fringe views of NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers. On Wednesday, CNN published a firsthand account of Rodgers believing and repeating debunked conspiracy theories about the murder of 20 children and six educators at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut. Rodgers has also spread lies about the COVID-19 vaccine and reportedly questioned 9/11. After receiving criticism, Rodgers sought to clarify his views, however he failed to address his past comments.

Chris Harris, GIFFORDS Vice President of Communications

“The Kennedy family knows the horror of gun violence all too well. As a senator, US attorney general and presidential candidate in the 1960s, Robert F. Kennedy gave voice to voters’ frustrations and eloquently made the case for commonsense gun laws that kept guns out of the wrong hands and protected the Second Amendment. His shooting and murder marked a troubling time for our nation.

“RFK Jr., however, is an embarrassment to his father’s historic legacy as a principled leader and he consistently displays a stunning lack of judgment. In fact, the same day his buddy Aaron Rodgers was exposed for telling a journalist he believes the harmful, disproven lies about the murder of 26 innocent people at Sandy Hook Elementary, RFK Jr. went on television to praise Rodgers for his character and critical thinking.

“If Aaron Rodgers’s fringe views and behavior have disqualified him from appearing in ads, they sure as hell disqualify him from the White House. The fact that RFK Jr. would even consider someone like Aaron Rodgers as his VP pick is a huge red flag for voters across the political spectrum.”
