GIFFORDS PAC Endorses Abigail Spanberger for Virginia Governor

Washington DC  — Today, GIFFORDS PAC, the national gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, endorsed US Representative Abigail Spanberger for Governor of Virginia ahead of next year’s critical statewide election. If elected, she would be Virginia’s first woman governor.

Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords

“Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger knows how to win a tough fight. She emerged victorious in one of the closest congressional races in the country in 2018, helped pass the first federal gun safety law in nearly 30 years, and has continued to work diligently to free Americans from the constant threat of gun violence. Critical progress in Virginia has hit a roadblock on the governor’s desk for the last three years, but that can and must change in 2025. I know Congresswoman Spanberger will bring a fierce defense of public safety to the governor’s mansion, and I am proud to support her in this race. I look forward to fighting alongside her to break the gun lobby’s grip on Richmond.”

Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger

“I’ve worked directly with this terrific organization to keep our fellow Americans safe. That’s why I’m so proud to have GIFFORDS’s support in my campaign to serve as the next Governor of Virginia. Across our Commonwealth, far too many innocent Virginians have become targets in their neighborhoods, at their schools, and throughout their communities. As a Member of Congress, I’ve worked with both parties to prevent gun violence. And as Governor, I am committed to bringing together our neighbors to save lives.”

For three terms, Congresswoman Spanberger has been a strong supporter of commonsense gun safety reform and fought to pass background checks on all gun sales, red flag laws, measures to disarm abusive domestic partners, and lifesaving safe storage requirements. Prior to her election to the US House, she served as a federal law enforcement officer and worked on counterterrorism and nonproliferation cases at the CIA.
