Gabby Giffords remembers survivors, victims five years after shooting in Virginia Beach

WASHINGTON — Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, founder of national gun violence prevention group GIFFORDS, remembered the victims and survivors of the mass shooting in Virginia Beach five years ago. Twelve people were shot and killed and four more were injured at a municipal building.

“Five years ago today, 12 people went to work and never came home because of a senseless act of gun violence,” said Giffords. “I’m thinking of their families, the survivors and the community that was forever changed. Workplaces should never be a site of violence and trauma, yet it’s happened again and again. We must do more to protect our communities and take action to end gun violence.”
