GIFFORDS announces $15 million investment in support of gun safety champions in 2024

The group will focus efforts on electing and uplifting allies working to end gun violence, including Vice President Kamala Harris

WASHINGTON —Today, GIFFORDS, the gun violence prevention organization founded by Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, announced a $15 million investment in support of gun safety champions in 2024. The investment includes a comprehensive effort to reach key voters through paid media including television, digital advertising, and direct mail, as well as the deployment of Congresswoman Giffords, surrogates, and staff to make the case directly to voters in key states across the country. The efforts will support elected allies up and down the ballot and promote policies that close loopholes and save lives. It will also bolster Vice President Kamala Harris’ historic bid for the White House.

National battleground research conducted by GIFFORDS in June found that 70% of Americans in battleground districts voters are “extremely” or “very” concerned about gun violence. These findings suggest that with control of the House, Senate, and White House at stake, 2024 is a critical year for public safety. Electorally, GIFFORDS will make strategic investments to make the difference in races where the issue of gun violence is uniquely positioned to put campaigns over the top. It will also support the advocacy efforts of gun sense champions in office across the country.

The programming will put a special focus on congressional districts where gun violence messaging is powerful among women and Latino voters. June polling revealed that 60% of Latino voters and 57% of Black voters say Congress closing loopholes in laws that allow guns in the wrong hands is a “top priority” for them this cycle. A majority of women say the same, and 73% of women say easy access to guns is a major cause of crime.

“With just over 100 days until election day, GIFFORDS will redouble its efforts to support champions who are committed to saving lives – including ensuring that Vice President Kamala Harris becomes the next president of the United States,” said GIFFORDS Executive Director Emma Brown. “Across the country, Americans are crystal clear: they want elected leaders who stand up to the gun lobby and put public safety first. This year is  critically important, and we look forward to supporting allies committed to preventing gun violence at every level of government— from the state legislative level to Congress, and giving Vice President Harris effective governing partners when she wins in November.”
