GIFFORDS PAC endorses Senator Mazie Hirono for reelection

WASHINGTON — Today, GIFFORDS PAC, the national gun violence prevention organization founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, endorsed Senator Mazie Hirono (D-HI) for reelection to the US Senate.

“Throughout her career, Senator Mazie Hirono has been a strong champion of commonsense gun safety measures to protect our communities, while ensuring the ability of Americans to responsibly own guns,” said former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. “As a senior member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, she’s displayed an unwavering commitment to reducing gun violence by supporting background checks, measures to keep guns away from people who have been convicted of domestic abuse, and regulating the sale of dangerous weapons. From her support of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act to her leadership in the fight to hold the gun industry accountable, we know she won’t back down when it comes to bolstering public safety. GIFFORDS PAC is proud to endorse Senator Hirono for reelection knowing that she will always put the safety of Hawaiians first.”

“Everyone in our country deserves to live in safety, free from gun violence,” said Senator Mazie Hirono. “I was proud to support bipartisan gun safety legislation in 2022 – the most significant such legislation in years – but we have much more work to do to enact common-sense gun safety legislation supported by the overwhelming majority of Americans. GIFFORDS PAC is a critical partner in our fight to end gun violence in America, and I’m proud to have their support in my campaign for reelection.”

In Washington DC, Senator Hirono has been a tireless advocate for commonsense measures like expanding background checks to all gun sales, disarming domestic abusers, regulating the availability of untraceable ghost guns, and banning the sale of deadly assault weapons, bump stocks and large capacity magazines. Senator Hirono has also worked to hold the gun industry accountable for their role in too many senseless shootings and ensure that individuals who have engaged in hate-based violence can’t get their hands on weapons. In 2022, she joined colleagues on both sides of the aisle to pass the landmark Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which made gun trafficking a federal crime and marked the largest investment in lifesaving community violence intervention programs in American history.
