Gun lobby thanks Mike Lawler with campaign cash

Gun industry trade association knows Mike Lawler will fight for them, not New Yorkers

WASHINGTON — Today, the national gun violence prevention organization GIFFORDS, founded by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, criticized Rep. Mike Lawler for accepting financial support from the corporate gun industry’s trade association while gun violence remains a threat to families in the Lower Hudson Valley. The contribution from NSSF PAC was unearthed in Lawler’s third quarter campaign financial disclosure with the Federal Election Commission.

“Keeping New York schools and communities safe from gun violence requires leaders to stand up to the gun lobby, not cash their checks. Mike Lawler pretends to be an independent voice, but behind closed doors he sides with the gun lobby and Donald Trump, not the Lower Hudson Valley,” said GIFFORDS Executive Director Emma Brown. “Thankfully, New York voters can trust that Mondaire Jones will never risk their families’ safety for campaign cash.”

Last month, GIFFORDS PAC announced a $1 million investment in the race to represent New York’s 17th Congressional District as part of its $15 million commitment to electing and supporting gun safety champions in 2024. The NY-17 effort includes cable and digital ads in support of former Rep. Mondaire Jones and in opposition to Rep. Mike Lawler.

NARRATOR: It keeps happening.

Mike Lawler promised he’d support gun laws to keep our communities safe. But he broke that promise.

Lawler refuses to close loopholes that allow criminals and dangerous people to get their hands on guns. He voted against common-sense background checks. Lawler even supports letting teenagers buy assault weapons.

Lawler’s broken promises don’t just betray our trust—they put our families at risk.
