Newest class of GIFFORDS Courage Fellows trains in Houston
WASHINGTON — GIFFORDS, the national gun violence prevention organization led by Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, is welcoming its 2025 class of Courage Fellows in Houston for three days of advocacy training. The new class includes six gun safety advocates who have traveled from across the state to learn firsthand how to work with lawmakers to save lives. The Courage Fellows program was launched in 2018 to empower young advocates to fight for lifesaving gun safety laws. This year’s training takes place the week after its sister class convened in Tucson, Arizona.
“Since the program was first launched seven years ago, our Courage Fellows have inspired us with both their passion and their perseverance,” said former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. “These young leaders have committed themselves to becoming the next generation of gun safety advocates. Our Courage Fellows grew up in an age of unprecedented gun violence, in which school shootings are on the rise and gun violence is the leading cause of death for children. Yet despite pressures from all sides, these young people have dedicated themselves to advocacy, leadership, and fighting for lifesaving gun safety laws.”
The Courage Fellowship will include three days of lobbying at the Texas Legislature. Fellows will meet gun violence prevention leaders from across the nation and participate in engagement projects focused on creating a community safe from gun violence.
